Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot
The Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP) is a community-driven program designed to strengthen the economies of smaller communities in Canada. Foreign nationals will have the opportunity to apply for jobs posted by Canadian employers who are part of the participating communities. The program also ables applicants, if successful, to live and work in Canada as permanent residents.

Currently, there are five participating provinces with 11 participating communities in the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot, they are following:

- Thunder Bay, Ontario;
- Brandon, Manitoba;
- Altona/Rhineland;
- Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan;
- Claresholm, Alberta;
- Vernon, British Columbia; and
- West Kootenay (Trail, Castlegar, Rossland, Nelson), British Columbia).

Eligibility for the RNIP
To be eligible for the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot Program, you must meet all the following IRCC requirements:
- have qualifying work experience or have graduated from a publicly funded post-secondary institution in the recommending community;
- meet or exceed the language requirements;
- meet or exceed the educational requirements;
- prove that you have enough money to support your transition into the community;
- intend to live in the community you are recommended for; and
- meet community-specific requirements.
About the RNIP process
There are four steps to apply for Canadian permanent residency under this pilot:
- You must meet both the IRCC eligibility requirements and the community-specific requirements;
- Find an eligible job with an employer in one of the participating communities;
- Once you have a job offer, submit your application for recommendation to the community; and
- If you are successful and a community recommends you, apply for permanent residency.

Atlantic Immigration Pilot
The Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program (AIPP) is yet another great way for foreigners to work in Canada. This program is designed for skilled workers who want to become permanent residents in one of Canada’s four Atlantic provinces. They are Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia; and Prince Edward Island.
The AIPP fills jobs in the Atlantic that can’t be filled locally, applicants for this program can be living in Canada on a temporary visa or abroad when applying.
The AIPP has three programs, which include two for skilled workers:
- Atlantic High-Skilled Program;
- Atlantic Intermediate-Skilled Program; and
- Atlantic International Graduate Program.
The requirements for the Atlantic High-Skilled Program are:
- To apply for this program, you must have at least 1 year of experience working in management, professional or skilled job;
- You must have a foreign degree or diploma equal to a Canadian credential, for which you will need an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) report done;
- You will need to take an approved language test to prove you are proficient enough in English or French to live and work in Canada; and
- You need to have proof of funds that meet the minimum required amount to support yourself as well as any dependents regardless of whether they are joining you in Canada or not.
The requirements for the Atlantic Intermediate-Skilled Program are:
- To apply for this program, you must have at least 1 year’s experience working in a position that requires a high school education or job-specific training;
- You must have a high school diploma equal to a Canadian credential, for which you will need an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA report);
- You will need to take an approved language test to prove you are proficient enough in English or French to live and work in Canada; and
