Conducts Code For Police in  Nigeria

For the Nigerian police force, a code of conduct provides a list of guidelines and norms for both on and off-duty conduct. Included in this code of conduct are the following provisions:

1. Primary Responsibilities of a Police Officer

As an official representative of the state, a police officer must uphold the law. The authority and responsibilities of the officer are outlined in the statute. A police officer’s primary responsibilities include serving the community, protecting people and property, assuring the safety of the innocent, and maintaining order.

2. A Police Officer Job Performance

All tasks of a police officer must be carried out objectively, without bias or prejudice. Status, gender, color, religion, ideology, or aspirations should not factor into this.

3. Self-control

A police officer is expected to exercise his or her authority by the law, and to do so in a responsible manner.

4. The Use of Force

Using force or violence toward a civilian is never acceptable for a police officer.

5. Confidentiality

Confidential information that a police officer observes hears, or learns.

6. Completeness

Corruption and bribery will not be tolerated by a police officer.

Sixth code of conduct

For the sake of their integrity and the integrity of the police force, officers are not allowed to receive, give out, solicit, or accept any gift that could reasonably be perceived as influencing their official actions or judgments.

Seventh Code of Conduct

When a conflict of interest occurs, police officers must not jeopardize their integrity or that of their force by taking or attempting to influence actions.
