Before we proceed, let’s answer the popular question, what is NIN?
The national identification number also known as NIN, is an 11-digit number assigned to Nigerians who have successfully registered their details with the national identity management commission.
After registration, the NIN is usually written on a slip so you can easily access it. You can also get the NIN by dialing a USSD code *346# on your phone. The code works for all Nigerian telecommunication networks.
Please note that the NIN is not the same as the bank verification number (BVN). They are two different numbers. You should never attempt using your bank verification number to link your mobile phone lines. The NIN is the only acceptable number for that.
How To Link Your SIM To Your NIN using USSD Code, SMS And NIMC Mobile App
Here is how to verify and link NIN to your SIM in less than 2 minutes.
For MTN Users
Dial *785*YourNIN#. For instance, if your NIN is 00000000001, you are to dial *785*00000000001# on your MTN line to link your SIM to the national identity number.
You can also do that by visiting www.mtnonline.com/nin and uploading your personal details on the MTN website.
For Airtel Users

For 9Mobile Users
If you are a subscriber with 9Mobile telecommunication network, you can link your NIN to your line all by yourself.

You will be asked to provide your mobile phone number, NIN and other personal details. Do keep this handy before visiting the 9mobile NIN registration website.

Interestingly, you can also verify and link your national identification number to all your lines with just the official NIMC mobile application.
To do this, simply open Google Play Store on your android device and search for the mobile app there.
As soon as you see it, download and install it on your phone.
After that, login with the required details and proceed to link your NIN from there.
